FEATURED ARTIST
RUBEN A. DIMAS
Fort Myers, FL
Ruben A. Dimas is a Florida-based artist specializing in fine automotive artworks. He is a Latin-based designer with descendants from a small town in Tulancingo, Mexico. He grew up in Fort Myers, Florida, and began his automotive journey early on as an apprentice to his father, holding the flashlight and learning that whatever position you held it, it was wrong. From his years as a mechanic to days doodling in class, he decided the life of a professional automotive artist was the best way to combine his passion for art and automobiles.
Starting his journey, Ruben enrolled at Florida Southwestern State College where he would end up on a full-ride study abroad trip in Florence, Italy, at the age of 18. For a month, he was absorbed in the historic art of the renaissance era, contributing to his knowledge of color theory and the old oil paintings of the masters. While in Italy, it was his mission to visit the Italian automotive HQs: Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Pagani. While at Pagani, he would go on to meet Mr. Horacio Pagani, the lead designer and owner of Pagani. This encounter spoke to Ruben, proving that he could make a name for himself in the automotive industry.
Ruben later enrolled at Ringling College of Art and Design, graduating with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Here he enhanced and perfected his artistic skills, taking live figure drawing classes, sculpture, and metalworking classes to embrace his passion for the arts. He would be the very first student at Ringling to be sponsored by an automotive company. In his senior year, he worked hand in hand with skilled General Motors design seniors, creating and designing a concept car from the ground up. He 3D modeled and sculpted the entire concept car by hand, just as they have been doing for decades!
Graduating at the top of his class, he decided that the life of a freelance artist was the best way to spend his time. Showcasing his works in automotive shows, dealerships, and galleries across Florida, he proves that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.
